Use Essential Oils to Repel Household Dust Mites

Household Dust Mite

According to the Environmental Protection Agency,

Dust mites are tiny bugs that are too small to see. Every home has dust mites. They feed on human skin flakes and are found in mattresses, pillows, carpets, upholstered furniture, bedcovers, clothes, stuffed toys and fabric and fabric-covered items." Humans shed about 600,000 particles of skin every hour. That's alot of delicious grub for your household dust mite.

Why do we care so much about something that doesn't necessarily bother most people?

Wikipedia states "House dust mites are a common cause of asthma and allergic symptoms worldwide."

Since everybody has them, what can we do about them?

Its essentially impossible to have a completely dust mite free home. Below you will find tips  on how you can use essential oils to help reduce dust mites in your home.

You Can Spray

Eucalyptus essential oils can kill dust mites! All you have to do is combine 2 cups of distilled water, 5 drops of organic liquid soap and 30 drops of eucalyptus essential oil, and spray it on your bed, fabric curtains, and/or carpet daily to keep the dust mites at bay. *spray from a distance not to soak the fabric -More Information

You Can Dust

When dusting, do not use a feather duster. This will only spread the dust mites around the room. Instead dust with a damp cloth and add a few drops of organic eucalyptus and wintergreen essential oils.
